Getting around the building
Elevators
Walk into an elevator car when it is level with your floor, then hold up or down to drive it. The car always comes to rest level with a floor, so you can't get stuck between two. You can also step onto the roof of a car and ride on top of it, but watch the top of the shaft: a car that carries you up into it will crush you.
Empty shafts
If you walk into a shaft when the car isn't there, you fall. A drop of about one floor, onto a car roof or the bottom of the shaft, is survivable. Anything further is not. The bottom of a shaft is solid ground, but it's a bad place to stand when a car is coming down.
You can also jump across an empty shaft. Take off right at the edge and you'll make it, even if you land a few pixels short. Take off too early and you'll drop down the shaft instead. A car standing at your floor blocks the jump.
Escalators
On the lower floors, escalators link one elevator shaft to the next. Press down at the top of an escalator, or up at the bottom, to step on.
Enemies
Enemy agents step out of the blue doors. Each shot they fire is either high or low: duck under a high shot, jump over a low one. You have four ways to take them out, and some pay better than others.
Scoring
| Action | Points |
|---|---|
| Shoot an enemy | 100 |
| Jump-kick an enemy | 150 |
| Drop a ceiling lamp on an enemy | 150 |
| Crush an enemy under a descending elevator | 300 |
| Collect a document from a red door | 500 |
| Clear a building | 1,000 × level number |
You earn an extra life at 10,000 points, then another every 20,000 points after that.
Lamps and blackouts
Jump and fire at a ceiling lamp to shoot it down. The building goes dark for a moment: every character becomes a silhouette and enemies have a hard time aiming at you. If an enemy is standing underneath when the lamp falls, it takes them out too.
The alarm
Take too long in a building and the alarm sounds. From then on enemies spawn faster, move faster and shoot more often, so keep moving.
Missed documents
Every red door holds a document, and you need all of them. If you reach the basement with any left, you're sent back up to the highest red door you missed.
